Acupuncture Treatments at PT Massage in Honolulu

Acupuncture is an effective form of natural healthcare, which involves the insertion of sterile, thin needles at strategic points on your body which then encourages the body toward its own natural healing capabilities by enhancing recuperative power, immunity and physical and emotional health. Acupuncture sessions can also include cupping to move stagnant blood and increase circulation.

A key component of Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture in the West is most commonly known to treat pain, as well as stress and support your general wellness.

However, acupuncture and Traditional Chinese Medicine is a complete system that is able to diagnose, treat and prevent many illnesses and disease.

In fact, acupuncturists are trained in both Chinese Medicine and Western Medicine, which enables them to work with both doctors and within the western diagnostic system.

Frequently Asked Questions

Acupuncture is a technique for balancing the flow of energy or life force — known as Qi, by needling points on different meridians on the body.

When Qi flows freely throughout the body, one enjoys good physical, mental and emotional well-being. Many things can influence the quality, quantity and balance of Qi.

Physical and emotional trauma, stress, lack of exercise, overexertion, seasonal changes and diet can lead to a blockage or imbalance of Qi. When the body is in a healthy state, it will naturally bounce back.

However when the disruption of Qi is prolonged or excessive, then illness, pain and disease can set in. By inserting needles into specific points along these meridians, acupuncture can rebalance the flow of Qi in the body.

Treatment frequency depends on a variety of factors: the severity of your condition, duration of the problem, and the strength of the body.

Some people experience immediate relief, others may take months to achieve results.  Chronic conditions usually take longer to resolve than acute ones.

Plan on 1-2 treatments a week for a month to see significant changes for chronic conditions, however, your acupuncturist will work with you as an individual and will recommend a plan that is in your best interest.

Herbs may be recommended as an adjunct to your treatment, and other therapies may also be used such as electrical stimulation, cupping and massage during your session.
